Well, the Major League All-Star baseball game is coming up soon. But this year, with the threat of a player's strike afterwards, there's a pall hanging over America's favorite pastime. Not to worry, though. With the Disney Company diversifying into major professional sports (as shown by their purchase of the NHL Anaheim Mighty Ducks), it's entirely possible that the Mouse might take up the slack and introduce its own lineups into the game. (Hey! It could happen! ;-) But where would they find players if everyone's on strike?

Enter Steve Liu <admiral@[...]>, rec.arts.disney regular and Disney fantasy baseball fan extraordinare. Steve has put together his own Disney All-Star team, with Ariel as his starting pitcher. Now, the reasons for this aren't exactly clear; after all, Belle has pitched a couple of mean snowballs herself in her career, as we saw in her movie. Except Steve has her behind Ariel in his lineup. But that doesn't really matter. If Ariel's fastball is anything like what we see here, then she may very well fill the void left by a players' strike!

(Interestingly enough, Belle was second string in Bob's picture too. Bob initially did a pencil sketch of Belle in the same pose, but decided that he should draw someone else for a change, and changed characters when it came time for the pen-and-ink drawing you see here.)

That lovely meadow where Belle, of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, sings about wanting "adventure in the great wide somewhere" is itself a perfect place for adventure...in her world of books. Here we see Belle indulging her imagination. We also see one of the household cats looking for something else with which to indulge in her basket. Apparently the poor kitty hasn't yet figured out that Belle only keeps things to feed the mind, not the body, in her basket...

This is a request forwarded by Tom Griner <teg@[...]> from one of his coworkers, who really wanted to see Belle with a cat. :-) Please note that Bob is unfortunately unable to take any further requests at this time, as his "work-in-progress" pile is larger than his "Ito Galleries, Inc." series...

The image accompanying this description, when decoded, depicts cartoon characters lacking some articles of clothing. Nothing explicit, however-- this is a parody of a well-known magazine cover. Please do not go through the trouble of recovering the image if this may bother you.

If you've seen the July 1994 cover of ESQUIRE magazine, you'll note that Christie Brinkley, er, wasn't quite prepared for her trip to the beach, and thus she used her reading material as something other than reading material. [Hence the inevitable caption, "Drop that book!". <shrug> What can you say, it's a men's magazine...] Here, we find Belle in a similar predicament. Fortunately, she's got her surfer-beau, Speedo-clad Beast looking after her. Will he get to her with that towel in time, just in case she really does do something so foolish as dropping that book?.....

"Tinker-rug" (tinkerug.gif, 649x760x2, 12017 bytes) is the 24th in a continuing series of fine Disney fanart drawings by Bob Ito <ito@[...]>.

Some time ago, there was a long thread in rec.arts.disney about the Future Disney Cabinet (FDC) Magic Carpet (of ALADDIN fame) popping the question to the FDC Tinkerbell. Not surprisingly, there was a great deal of whimsical speculation about what their half-rug, half-pixie offspring might look like. So Bob headed off to the library to read up on genetic engineering and produced an artist's conception (pun intended :-) of the Tinker-rug. One has to wonder how it flies, though. Does it flap its pixie wings, or cruise along like a magic carpet, or what?

"Tinker Belle" (tnkbelle.gif, 606x767x2, 9288 bytes) is the 25th in a continuing series of fine Disney fanart drawings by Bob Ito <ito@[...]>.

When the last drawing ("Tinker-rug", tinkerug.gif) was posted, there was a lot of idle speculation on rec.arts.disney about what exactly this half- pixie, half-magic-carpet offspring was really supposed to be. As well as some wild speculation on what *else* it could be. Here's what Peter Olbach <pcolbach@[...]> had to say about it:

 **Idea alert!!**

Various net-artists (David Uy and Bob Ito come to mind) have drawn Belle as
everything from a mermaid to a Buffalo Bill, and have posted the results
as binary files on alt.binaries.pictures.cartoons and in anonymous FTP
 sites. So why not...

 Tinker-Belle! (tinkbell.gif)

How about it? Any takers? (Or has it been done already?)

BTW, why is Belle a favourite subject for such bizarre net-art? She's
arguably the most level-headed of all Disney heriones, and yet she's put
into all sorts of wierd and wonderful scenarios. (Well, she said she
wanted "adventure in the great wide somewhere", and now she's getting a
 plateful... :-) )

Bob, of course, is never one to let a good idea go to waste (or, for that matter, a bad idea...:-), so here's his rendition of the little bookloving pixie! You can decide for yourself if it's a good idea or a bad idea....;-)
